Safer, More Accurate Service! Chillicothe Transit Launches 30-Day Trial of New 1-Hour Western Avenue Route with Expanded Stops.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Great news for local riders! The Chillicothe Transit System is rolling out a major improvement to its services with a 30-day trial of an updated Western Avenue Fixed Route, beginning next Monday, October 20th and running through November 18th.

The transit authority has restructured the route with the dual goal of enhancing both accuracy and safety for passengers.

Key Route Changes and Extended Service

The most significant change is the extension of the route time to a full one hour. This new schedule mirrors the successful Bridge Street route, offering riders a more consistent and predictable service window:

  • Top of the Hour Bus: Runs from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Monday–Friday)

  • Bottom of the Hour Bus: Runs from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM (Monday–Friday)

According to Chillicothe Transit, this extension was crucial to allow for the inclusion of new stops in higher-demand areas, many of which were specifically requested through rider feedback.

New Stops and Safety Adjustments

The map provided by the Transit System highlights the new, streamlined path. Passengers will now have access to several new stops, including:

  • The Transit Hub (promising shorter wait times for transfers)

  • The Pioneer Center

  • Hopeton Terrace (which replaces the previous Liberty Village stop)

  • Stoneridge Dr.

  • The area Near Social Security Office

  • Adena Urgent Care

  • Bowman Rd. & W. 2$^{\text{nd}}$ St.

  • Pohlman Rd. & Johnson Rd.

In the interest of safety, the Transit System has also made adjustments to several existing stops—including Community Action, Hopewell Health, Senior Center, Save A Lot, and CVS—and is removing the Walgreens stop entirely for safety concerns.

Your Feedback is Essential

Chillicothe Transit emphasizes that this is a trial period, and rider experience and input are the most critical components in shaping the future of the Western Avenue Route. Local commuters are encouraged to:

  1. Ride the New Western Avenue Route

  2. Share Your Feedback

  3. Help make transit safer, more accurate, and more accessible for all.
