Gunfire on East Main: cop hit, suspect down, BCI called in.
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe police officer was injured in an early morning shooting Wednesday, prompting an investigation by state authorities, officials said.
Mayor Luke Feeney said he was notified of the incident around 2:00 a.m. by Police Chief Meyers. The shooting occurred in the 300 block of East Main Street, according to a press release from the Chillicothe Police Department.
“I have spoken directly with the officer, and I’m relieved to share that he is doing well,” Feeney said in a statement released later Wednesday. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Adena Regional Medical Center.
A male involved in the incident was seriously injured and transported to Grant Hospital in Columbus, officials said.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the inquiry into the shooting. No further details have been released.
Feeney said the city will provide updates “as they become available and appropriate.”
For media inquiries, the Attorney General’s Office directed questions to Press Secretary Steve Irwin.
